How Teaching Men to Pray May be the Secret to Effective Disciple Making

Thursday is for Discipleship

Godfrey Emanuel Lundberg carved the Lord's Prayer on the head of a pin between 1913-1915.

Examine the Lord’s Prayer.

Matthew 6:9-15 (ESV)
9 Pray then like this:

“Our Father in heaven,
mmmhallowed be your name.

10 Your kingdom come, your will be done,
mmmon earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread,
12 and forgive us our debts,
mmmas we also have forgiven our debtors.

13 And lead us not into temptation,
mmmbut deliver us from evil.

14 For if you forgive others their trespasses,
mmmyour heavenly Father will also forgive you,

15 but if you do not forgive others their trespasses,
mmmneither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

  • If new believers learned to honor the name of God (vs 9)
  • Pray for (and work) for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven (vs 10)
  • Depend on God for their daily bread (vs 11)
  • Seek the forgiveness of God daily and forgive the sins of others against them (vs 12)
  • Learned to actively look for the way of escape from temptation (vs 13)
  • Learned to see forgiveness at the core of the Christian life—that forgiven people should be radically forgiving people. (vs 14-15) …

How much different would our churches be if young men and women started their Christian experience learning these things?

Anybody want to collaborate on a discipleship curriculum based on the Lord’s Prayer?
