The message was over. The final song gave room for reflection on both the message and its own lyrics. Tears of joy began to flow along with prayers of longing for those who do not know the Savior of whom we sang. Pastor prayed. I wiped my tears, turned away from others, and reached to blow my nose. When I turned around, a man approached me. His gate was slow. His arm and hand shook a little. I didn’t recognize him. He said only one thing.
“God collects all those
tears in a bottle.”
And then, just as quickly as he appeared, he turned and walked away. Alone now, I turned to pick up my Bible.
It took about five seconds. I raised my head again, as his words resonated in my heart, and looked around to see if I could get someone to tell me his name. But he was gone. “Could such a tremulous man make it out of this cavernous space in that brief amount of time?”
An angel is a messenger of God. And sometimes, we are told in the Scripture, “some have entertained angels without knowing it (Hebrews 13:2). Did I see an angel today? I doubt it. I may see the man in next week’s worship service. Angel or not, he was a messenger of God to me today. I needed those 8 words for good hope of my soul.
