Tuesday Musing
About a decade ago, I was musing about the content of a DMin class I just took the week before and thinking about Jesus and primary commands for leaders. What would be the top three commands for disciple/leaders that Jesus gave? (My friend, John Nunnickhoven, added a fourth in the comments.)
Confining ourselves to the four gospels, what does Jesus say is the job description of leaders?
It is amazing how a simple questions like that can reveal so much. Three commands immediately jumped to my mind.

- “Follow Me and I will make you to become fishers of men.” (Mt. 4:19)
- “Love one another” (Jn. 15:12-17)
- “Feed my sheep.” (Jn. 21:15-19)
- [“Repent and believe the gospel” (Mk. 1:15)] John Nunnickhoven’s addition

kkkkkk
sssss
What would it look like, I wonder, if we constructed our leadership training around these three commands?
-
Training men and women to follow Jesus’ pattern of fishing for men.
-
Training men and women to love one another.
-
Training men and women to shepherd (guide, nurture and develop) the flock for which they care.
-
(Train them to preach that all men should repent and believe the gospel. Mark 1:15)
Love your list but can we go for 1 more?
Jesus told His disciples to preach, “Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand”
This would generate a new #1 Training men and women to preach what Jesus preached.
