That bubble of water over the land mass of the USA is all the water there is on planet earth. “We think of Earth as the water planet. But what if you [took] … all of the water on Earth and form[ed] it into a sphere, or bubble? How big would the bubble be? The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has the answer. All the water on Earth would fit into a sphere 860 miles (1,385 km) wide.” (Source: EarthSKy.org)
All of it.
All the oceans.
All the rivers.
All the water in every pond and stream.
All the ice caps and
all the snow, melted down.
All the water vapor in the atmosphere.
All the water in all the tomatoes and pumpkins.
All the water in all the trees and bushes.
All the water in the vines and grasses and everything else that grows.
All the water in the aquifers under Europe and Asia,
and North America and South America.
All the water in every animal.
All the water in every human which scientists estimate is between 50-65 percent of every person depending on gender.
All of it.
All of it, squeezed out and put in one place.
All the water drawn out of 36,070 feet of deepest part of Mariana Trench in the Pacific ocean, a place so deep that if you dropped Mount Everest into it, the top of the highest mountain on earth would still be 2 kilometers below the surface.
All of it.
That’s it. That’s what God has given to sustain the life of the “third rock” from the sun.
Our God is awesome!
Psalm 139:7-12 (ESV)
7 Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
8 If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
9 If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
and the light about me be night,”
12 even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you.
Our God condescended to become a man and dwell with us, to reveal Himself, to die for us and rise for us and to prepare a place for us and promise to come back for us, and take us to be with Him forever. What might such a God be preparing for those who love Him!
All hail the Creator and Redeemer!
Scientists have recently discovered new oceans of water deep below the earth’s land masses, that might be added to this calculation but no matter how much is there the point is still made: land and rocky stuff dwarfs the amount of water on the planet. (perhaps compare Genesis 7:11 and “all the fountains of the great deep burst forth”.
