Lessons which Suffering Taught Me

I love the simplicity and the wisdom of this post from a recent visitor to the ChosenRebel BLOG. I hope it is an encouragement to you today.


1. Comparison is the thief of happiness.

We are all prone to comparing ourselves with others, even measuring God’s blessings by our observations of what He gives. I catch myself comparing my own blessings with those of others, sometimes feeling shortchanged by what others have and what I do not.

“Lord, why does he/ she have ABC while I do not? Why do you bless him/ her and not me?”

Jealousy is a toxic emotion which must be subdued. In the first documented act of murder recorded in Genesis 4, we see how jealousy led Cain to murder Abel.  Perhaps one of the hardest things we struggle with is saying,

“Thank You Lord for all that I have and all that I don’t.”

  1. Gratitude is key to contentment. Colossians 3:5 tells us covetousness is idolatry, and I don’t want to set an idol above my God, Savior and Lord. Always fighting the flesh.
