“Beware in your prayer, above everything, of limiting God, not only by unbelief, but by fancying that you know what He can do.”
—Andrew Murray,
pastor and author
The God who spoke galaxies into existence should never be limited in our thinking.
Ephesians 3:20 Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,
It is impossible for us not to limit God; our finite minds simply cannot stretch to encompass the infinite. However when we pray “God, you probably won’t do this, too small for you to bother with but …” that we not only attempt to limit God but demonstrate our lack of faith.

Amen on both points. The problem is we can’t imagine what God might or could do and so we often don’t trust him for anything.

Yup–we need to learn to recognize that our lack of ability to comprehend God’s limitlessness should be a basis for our faith not our lack of trust. I’ve been trying to remind myself constantly that I really don’t want a god I can understand and comprehend–what a weak being that would be!
