Looking for Mercy in the Nightwatches of Life

Weekend Musings

A Poetry Project Offering*
Psalm 9:10
*Always read the Psalm first.

“And those who know your name put their trust in you,
for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you.”

“Sleep is Awake”

4:30 AM
Only fisherman and people far more spiritual than me are up at this hour.
Sleep is awake.

Tumbling, cascading, jumbled, rushing, numbing thoughts
Arrive in waves of … what?

“Befuddlement” sounds too humorous.

Where are your tears?
Where is feeling?
Why are you so empty?
What is your flaw?
When will you figure it out?
How can you get anywhere if you don’t?

Lord, help me.

This is where I always arrive.

On my knees in a quiet AM hour,
spirit bowed and
heart-raw.

Restore me Lord,

Make my life declare that
You are the rescuer of those who put their trust in you.

Please O God, soon.
