Longing to Know that I Need Him Every Hour

Almost a year ago, just before Christmas, we were hit with blizzard winds and snow here in Bolingbrook. Stephnie and I decided to have worship here, in the confines of our home with our just-from-college-returned son, and pre-c0llege daughter rather than brave the chill of winter and another visit to a church that is not our home.

A year later, our son is married, the weather outside isn’t frightful, its downright warm, but it is my second year of pursuing this new adventure God has called us to. I love the men I am getting to mentor and train now but it is still a bit strange for a pastor who is used to getting up to serve and love his flock to be flock-less.

Last year I pulled off three layers of warmth and retreated down to my basement office to prepare my heart to lead a flock of three. Strains of Indelible Grace began to fill the air. The bright sun outside cut through the cold and penetrated my one window to deposit its rays. Sarah Catherine Brooks raises her voice to draw out my soul …

I Need Thee Every Hour

I need Thee every hour. Most gracious Lord
No tender voice like Thine, Can peace afford
I need thee every hour, Stay Thou nearby
Temptations lose their power, When Thou art nigh.

I need Thee, O I need Thee, O I need Thee,
Every hour I need you Lord, O bless me now.
My Savior, I come to Thee

I need Thee every hour, In joy or pain
Come quickly and abide, Or life is vain
I need Thee every hour, Teach me Thy will
And Thy rich promise, in me fulfill.

I need Thee, O I need Thee, O I need Thee,
Every hour I need you Lord, O bless me now.
My Savior, I come to Thee

I need Thee every hour,
Most Holy One O make me Thine indeed,
Thou blessed Son

I need Thee, O I need Thee, O I need Thee,
Every hour I need you Lord, O bless me now.
My Savior, I come to Thee
I need Thee every hour
I need Thee every hour
I need Thee every hour
I need Thee every hour

Reminded again, I arise and go to lead my small flock of three, longing for so many more to know their need for Jesus in every hour. Today, I hope you know that you need him every hour. Cultivate that need. It is the only need in the world that strengthens the heart as the need grows deeper.
