With pastors like Terry Jones in Florida, and Joel Osteen in Texas, it takes some real courage to be a protestant these days. That said, here is the perfect book to galvanize your heart with the truth of the gospel.

The Courage to be Protestant, by David Wells.

This is a book that every leader in the church ought to read. Anyone who hasn’t had the privilege of a theological education will benefit from its historical run-up to the present moment. It is penetrating in its insight, and inspiring in its belief in the power of the gospel to change lives.

You won’t agree with everything and at times you will think that Wells falls into the same trap that his antagonist’s do in couching preferences as dogma. And although it is not a quick read, it is a worthy investment of time for the King and His Kingdom.
