Thought experiment that I put before men
at a discipleship conference some 16 years ago:
- You are going home at the end of the day. You get in your car, turn on the ignition, look at the gas gauge, and remember that you forgot to get gas. Instantly, a calculation goes on. You know that when the needle is where it is at, you have about 20 miles till you run out of gas. But you have 47 miles to go. What do you do?
mmmmm- You are on a family vacation. You know that your van has a touring range of 350 miles. You have gone 300 miles till you run out of gas. But you have 150 miles to go. What do you do?
mmmmm- Knowing the reality, you take decisive action. You change your behaviour in light of the new information you have just put all the pieces together for.
mmmmm- This morning gentleman, I am going to give you some new information about something that is holding you back in your relationship with Christ. It is going to be of no use to you if you do not do something, decisively do something, after you get this information.
mmmmm- Worse, if you do nothing, you will be scarring your soul, and will make it harder to grow in Christ in the future.
mmmmm- Worse still, if you do nothing, it may be an indication you you aren’t even a believer in Jesus. You have just been fooling both yourself and everyone else into thinking you are.

I would like to hear the whole message!
