What are You Going to Do with that Sermon You Heard Sunday?

Saturday Musings

Multiple Hit And Runs In Cardiff
CARDIFF, WALES – People gather outside the church door as they leave a special service of prayer and reflection

So last Sunday you heard your pastor open up the word of God for you and your family. Chances are high that at your church, someone spent between 10-30 hours that week working on understanding a text in its original language and cultural setting, interpreting the text, meditating and praying over a text, thinking about your church and the needs of the church and organizing the message he would give in such a way that it reflected the biblical author’s intention, and organized it so that it’s logical flow was understandable and illustrated it in such a way that application was clear for today.

What is your intention now?

What are you going to do with it?

What is going to keep you from wasting his efforts?

How are you going to apply it?

You heard the word of God. Your pastor did his best to give the sense of the text and make it clear to you. Your Lord said that part of the task of every disciple-maker (that would be you and me if we are believers in Christ) is to teach you “to obey all that he commanded” (cf. Matthew 28:20).

Now, what are you going to do?
