Contending for Truth in a Truth Denying Culture

Tuesday is for Preaching

Martin LutherIf I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christ.

Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved, and to be steady on all the battlefield besides is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.

-MARTIN LUTHER

Three areas where the battle rages at the moment in our culture:

  1. Sexual identity: Two genders or five (LGBT and Straight)? and all the attendant issues.
  2. Role distinction for men and women.
  3. The existence of hell and the need for the Gospel to be preached to the nations.

Our culture is testing the boundaries, pushing at the margins, kicking the tires on a wholesale rebellion against the long established creational norms of God’s word. It is what we should expect.  The devil has multiple tricks in his bag. In our time, these are some of the battle lines where he is applying his tricks.  Will the people of God stand for the truth once delivered (cf. Jude)?

  1. Amen! I have recently took up sounding the warning bell about the dangers of feminism and how this insidious movement has altered our concept of the roles of men and women as God has created them. I have been surprised from where the resistance to the truth is coming. I needed to hear this exhortation!
