Thursday is for Discipleship
Last month I got to spend four hours with an old friend I hadn’t seen in 27 years. I had the privilege of leading him to faith in Christ some 34 years ago. What an incredible joy to see and hear of the difference the gospel has made in his life, in him family’s life and the in the life of his friends.
I met Kevin three or four weeks before and now I had just finished the last book in the Chronicles of Narnia and exclaimed “Wow! What a great God I serve.”
Kevin looked down at me and said, “You really do have a good time being a Christian don’t you?”
“I sure do Kevin, why don’t you sit down and I’ll tell you my understanding of the gospel?”
That was it. That started the conversation. Thirty four years ago, a recent high school graduate, on finding me excitedly rejoicing over the joys of the gospel, began to pursue Christ and his life has never been the same. Today he is a scientist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture researching ways to create sustainable food supplies for the hungry masses of the planet. He serves God and his family and brings joy to the heart of Christ as he witnesses by both word and deed to friend and foe.
Why would any who know Christ not want to have a lifetime of conversations like that?
