Friday is for Heart songs
“… hear our loss of focus on the gospel in our songs. This is no comment on musical styles and tastes, but simply an observation about the lyrical content of much that is being sung in churches today. In many cases, congregations unwittingly have begun to sing about themselves and how they are feeling rather than about God and His glory.” In Christ Alone: Living the Gospel Centered Life by Sinclair Ferguson
Be careful of your methods. There are unintended consequences to every choice we make. Remember, that the church is essentially about the worship of Christ. Mission is not ultimate, as Dr. John Piper has written about in his book, Let the Nations Be Glad. Worship is ultimate. Mission exists because worship doesn’t.
Keep the focus in a worship service, even the worship service of a church plant, on the risen Christ.
Our culture is currently very “feeling centered.” It’s also possible to “worship the work” even when your mission is commendable.
