“Purity of heart is the will to one thing!”
Soren Kierkegaard
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
(Romans 8:1)
What joy the apostle Paul must have felt as he wrote these words! He had murdered multiple times in multiple cities but the gospel declared that even murders and breakers of the Law of Moses could be forgiven and now, by the grace of God, he was free from condemnation. Jesus had borne his sin and he stood un-condemned before a holy and righteous God.
I can still remember how precious these words were to me when Ken Frech shared them with me some 35 years and 8 months ago. I, who was (and remain) a great sinner, could stand un-condemned before God!
What a wonderful announcement. What fantastic good news!
And it still is.
The good news of the gospel is still worth proclaiming to all your friends and neighbors, your husband, your wife, your children, your high school classmates, your college classmates.
We can be forgiven! Read the 8th chapter of Romans again today. Let it wash over you and delight your heart again.
Let your old joy be renewed.
Then Join me in praise and worship for a God who knows all our junk, our pride, our idiotic choices, our wicked thoughts, our secret envies, all of it and LOVES US AND FORGIVES US in Christ.
Ask God to give you a will to one thing — to live a life worthy of such a God.
