Better Ideas Than God

William Tyndale knew the heart of man. He understood the intoxicating draw of this world on the spirit of men and women. And he knew that the only remedy for the addictive pull of culture was the gospel of Jesus Christ.

But we, modern, sophisticates (sic) have forgotten that Jesus is called “Savior” because we needed a savior. We need a savior every moment of every day. Yes, to save us from our sins eternally, but also to save us from our selves daily. Our hearts continually run after the world when the Greatest Being in the Universe is offering us heaven. We are like children offered the pleasures of ice-cream turning away to eat bugs and dirt! The lunacy and destructiveness of our own choices are, when we stop to consider it, mind-bendingly obvious. And yet, we continue in our folly. It is absurd to think that broken people like us could think better thoughts then the unbroken-perfection that is God. Jesus will always outthink us. Always. You and I will never have a better idea than God. Never.

So here’s a thought—straight from the word of God—surrender. Surrender to the will of God.

Psalm 4:2
“O sons of men, how long will my honor become a reproach?
How long will you love what is worthless and aim at deception?”

Let us stoping running after worthless things. Let us quit with aiming at deception. Let us surrender our hearts and our wills to the superior will and wisdom of a God who loves us, who took on flesh and lived among us, who came to seek and save that which was lost, who laid down His life to save us from our sin and rebellion. Who rose victorious and told us He would return for us. And let us follow Him with all our strength to the people He sent us to with the glad tidings of the Gospel.
