Someone once told me that I ask dangerous questions. I think they meant it as a compliment, at least that is the way I took it. I don’t know if it is always wise to ask dangeous questions or even if dangerous questions ought to be our goal. But when I read this short quote from Robert Murray McCheyne it caused me to ask two “dangerous” questions.
“What a man is on his knees before God,
that he is, and nothing more.”
-
Is that true?
-
Does my prayer life make me something or prove me to be nothing?
Haunting and convicting questions. I suspect the answer to the first is yes. The answer to the second? Only time will tell. But the disturbing thought is that I am closer to nothing than something.
Oh God, make me warrior on my knees lest I be a waste and a fool. Make me honest before you so that I might always be honest before all. Make me, (make each of us who name your name) a praise to your glorious grace (Ephesians 1:6, 12, 14).
