What bubbles need to be burst in our thinking about making disciples / discipleship / spiritual formation?

I think John Ortberg had a point when he says that if we are measured by our devotional lives then the Pharisees have one. In other words our Christian lives should not be measured based on journaling, devos, time in prayer, but what those activities lead us to do for Christ. We can pray all we want, but we also need to live out the Kingdom of God.

That you can disciple yourself. Growing in spiritual disciplines can (sometimes) be individual work, but discipleship ALWAYS happens in intimate relationships with other believers.

“That discipleship can be done without evangelism. ” Sharing my faith seems to be an engine to my faith. Without it I turn into myself. As I step out in faith I sense God’s Spirit in ways that I seldom do.

Did you mean “can’t” be done” Let me ask it a different way. Did Jesus do discipleship without evangelism?
