What if . . .

Have you ever seen images of the Earth apparently “breathing”?

But in actuality, the Earth here is not breathing. It is a process of liquefaction where the ground underneath is being liquified by oversaturation with water, and giving the ground surface the appearance of a rising and falling lung. But it did get me thinking.

Today I read the final verse in the book of Psalms.

Let everything that has breath
praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!

Psalm 150:6 (NASB95) [1]

Psalm 150 is the peroration of the book. It is the final statement of the book’s purpose that everything in all the earth would redound to the praise of Yahweh. What should be the end result of our lives, of our worship, of our work, of our families, of our every effort? Read the psalm. It’s only six verses.

1 Praise the LORD!
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty expanse.
Praise Him for His mighty deeds;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness.

Praise Him with trumpet sound;
Praise Him with harp and lyre.
Praise Him with timbrel and dancing;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and pipe.
Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.
Praise the LORD!

So here is the question I am pondering tonight.

What would it look like if everything, in every place, every voice, every instrument, and every heart praised the Mighty God for all of His goodness and greatness and glory? What would that sound like?  One day, we will know, and that day, will be glorious.

Footnote

[1] The Legacy Standard version is less poetic but even more explicit:

“Let everything that has breath praise Yah.
Praise Yah!”
