Repairing the Soul

Damage to Rails After an Earthquake in New Zealand

Our lives are crooked, broken and in need of repair. Forgiveness is our need, but knowing our need does not insure that we will take the forgiveness offered. Knowing we need to be forgiven and actually wanting to be forgiven are two very different things. One gives a glimmer of hope. The other moves toward that hope. Shakespeare knew this. It is at the center of the tension in his greatest play, Hamlet.

It is also at the center of the tension and hope of our own lives in every moment of our lives. When the idea of repentance arises in our heart, will we run from sin to God, or will we run deeper into sin and away from God? The direction your heart runs is a critical diagnostic tool for the health of your soul.

Crooked, bent and broken hearts, like ours, need constant repair and attention. Repentance is the necessary tool for the job.
