Wednesday is for Prayer (Updated, Revised and Corrected)
Billy Graham’s Prayer For Our Nation
One of my readers has pointed out that the prayer that I said was Dr. Graham’s bears a striking similarity to Pastor Joe Wright’s 1996 prayer before the Kansas legislature. It’s possible that Dr. Graham has recast the prayer as his own, but it is also possible that someone else has put them up on the internet as Dr. Graham’s (innocently or not). So here is another prayer of Dr. Graham’s for the nation along with the original post below it and a link to pastor Joe Wright’s original prayer. (Link to Joe Wright’s prayer)
Our Father and Our God, we praise You for Your goodness to our nation, giving us blessings far beyond what we deserve. Yet we know all is not right with America. We deeply need a moral and spiritual renewal to help us meet the many problems we face. Convict us of sin.
Help us to turn to You in repentance and faith. Set our feet on the path of Your righteousness and peace. We pray today for our nation’s leaders. Give them the wisdom to know what is right, and the courage to do it. You have said, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” May this be a new era for America, as we humble ourselves and acknowledge You alone as our Savior and Lord. This we pray in Your holy name, Amen.
And here is the original post:
‘Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good,’ but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values.
We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor’s possessions and called it ambition.
We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from sin and set us free. Amen!’
Not a bad prayer to start your day with. In fact, not a bad prayer to pray until God gives revival to our nation. Thank you Dr. Graham and Pastor Wright for a bold and righteous prayers and honorable lives.
