Is Worship Important to Discipleship?

Garden of GethsemaneMonday Discussion

Mark 14:26
“And when they had sung a hymn they went out to the Mount of Olives.”

Even as he went to his destiny in the fullness of time (Gal. 4:4-5), Christ was still leading the disciples in worship. Conclusion: Worship is important to spiritual formation.

Question:
How important is worshiping with the people you are seeking to influence? Tell me your stories of how worship changed your discipleship process or effects.

  1. I was leading a monthly prayer meeting of worship pastors ands ministry leaders for 5 years where we prayed for the opportunity to lead worship in a secular setting and just let the Holy Spirit move. At the end of 5 years of those monthly prayer meetings, our group of worship pastors then had opportunity to lead worship for a monthly gathering of sailors and over the next 10 months of Saturdays and 2000 young sailors gave their hearts to Christ. We used Biblical Counseling to minister to them, but they were introduced to their need for God by being in His presence. It was the beginning of their discipleship.

  2. I was given the opportunity to witness to a young man who was my neighbor that had found himself in trouble with the law. He was arrested on drug charges and theft which landed him in jail. He then was sentenced and was transferred to a state prison. During his time in jail, the Lord nudged me in having compassion on this young person who had addictions and I sent him a Celebrate Recovery Bible. He was very grateful for the Bible.

I was just recently told by a member of my church that he, the church member, has taken 5 of these same Bibles to other inmates at the jail as they had requested them. This member told me that at night time in the jail it is very dark to where the inmates cannot read in their cells, however, there is one inmate where the hall light will shine barely into his cell and he can read his Bible. What he does next is awesome.

He reads the Celebrate Recovery Bible out loud to all the inmates. God is Great!!! The inmates are worshiping our Lord and Savior right here in the Iroquois County jail. I praise God for this opportunity to witness to my neighbor and God used that incident to bring lives to Him.
