Ash Wednesday, Lent, and Easter

Christmas and New Year’s Day are behind us. Valentine’s Day (my sister’s birthday) is in the rear window too. School buses are cruising our roads. Footballs are no longer flying through the air, and the weatherman says that warmer days are coming soon. In my garden, potatoes are starting to break the surface. Spring is just around the corner, and Lent starts tomorrow. Easter and Spring will give us new opportunities to tell our neighbors about the wonder of Jesus.

As we finish off February, I want to challenge all of us to be like the Apostle Paul.

“And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.”

—1 Cor. 2:1-2

  • Let’s speak more about Christ and less about politics.

  • Let’s speak more about Jesus and less about pop culture.

  • Let’s speak more about the cross and less about ourselves.

  • Let’s be Jesus-people in every waking moment.

  • Let’s look for new opportunities to serve our neighbors.

  • Let’s use our homes to have them over for dinner.

  • Let’s bless our neighbors and families by living passionately for and like Jesus.
