Bible Reading Plan for 2026

In the last two years, I used the Bible Reading plan supplied by my church in South Carolina. This year–having moved to Missouri–I have decided to start the new year with the Robert McCheyne Bible Reading Schedule. You can find it in various places online and also in the book I edited for The Sojourning Press in 2019. The plan includes an Old and New Testament portion for two different times in the day. McCheyne called these two sections “Family and Secret.” For example:

January starts with . . .

                       (Family)                                       (Secret)
January 1    Genesis 1  &  Matthew 1            Ezra 1  &  Acts 1
January 2   Genesis 2  &  Matthew 2           Ezra 2 &  Acts 2

McCheyne’s directions to his congregation on how to use the Daily Bible Reading Calendar are included in the book. I’ve included the first and last instructions below.

  1. The first two columns contain the chapter to be read in the family. The last two columns contain the portions to be read in secret. (i.e., In private devotion between you and Jesus
  2. The  . . .
  3. Frequently . . .
  4. The metrical . . .
  5. Let the conversation . . .

  8. Above all, use the Word as a lamp to your feet and a light to your path–your guide in perplexity, your armour in temptation, your food in times of faintness. Hear the constant cry of the great Intercessor, “Sanctify them through Thy truth: Thy word is truth.” (John 17:17)

Join me with your own McCheyne’s plan downloaded from the internet, or pick up my book, An Ordination Sermon by Robert M. McCheyne. The book includes a sermon by McCheyne from the day a friend of his was being ordained to the ministry, and much more to feed your soul.
