“Oh, Strangest Mockery!”

Sometimes, a 65-year-old quote is just what we need to shake us into reality.

“What! Are we so engrossed in the merchandise and merriment of the yearly commemoration that our Saviour is obscured by the very season which ostensibly honours Him? Oh, strangest mockery! While eastern sages travel miles and months to spread their rich devotion at His cradle, shall we who know so much more clearly the Babe’s divine identity spare only intermittent snatches of our time?”

Awake My Heart, J. Sidlow Baxter
(Zondervan, 1960), 365.

God became a man!
The incarnation is real.
The incarnation is history.
The incarnation is God gifting Himself to us.

The joy that was announced to the shepherds is available to all who will attend the manger.

Stop.

Give thanks for the wonder and bow your knee to more than a gift under a tree.
Bow to the King of kings and the Lord of lords.
Bow to the Savior of the world.
