Meditating About, Before and To God

Still getting settled in at our new digs in Pleasant Hope, MO. Culling more books from my library, sorting papers, hanging pictures, meeting neighbors, sharing the gospel, volunteering at the new Library, spending time with our grandchildren, daughter, and son-in-law, trying to nurse my back into health. These have been the primary activities of the last three weeks. I am beginning to meet more pastors, in addition to those already in my care. I will write soon about the whole move and take up a more regular writing pattern here on the blog, now that I have found the surface of my desk. But this evening, I wanted to pass on a helpful quote from J.I.Packer’s classic work, KNOWING GOD (p. 18).

Let these words guide your heart to the Savior, in ever deepening rivers of worship.

“Turn each truth that we learn about God

into a matter for meditation before God,

leading to prayer and praise to God.”

And let me couple that quote with this observation from another book,

“The New Testament quotes the Old Testament approximately 283 times. An astounding 41% (116 of 283) of all these Old Testament quotations are from the Psalms.”

War Psalms of the Prince of Peace, p. 3
James E. Adams

Make the Psalms the starting point of all your meditations.
