The Expanding Christian Majority

The latest issue of The Voice of the Martyrs arrived today. There are pictures and stories of people being baptized in rivers and other places in Vietnam, Somalia, Ethiopia, displaced Somalis in America, others in South Asia, all turning their lives to Christ. Despite the mainstream media’s silence, independent journalists have been reporting for the last two years about a dramatic shift toward Christianity on college campuses across the country. It is a story of gospel advance. It is the book of Acts continued. Nothing will keep the gospel from producing fruit. Good News is on the march. Good News is changing the world.

Today, I sat with a young believer in Christ. He is four months old. Wide eyed and excited, everything is new in his life. Four months ago, the Spirit of God began to convict him of his behavior. He began, almost out of thin air, to be disgusted with his deceits, his immorality, his addictions and greeds. Driving by the Billy Graham Library exit on the way to another job for his company, he felt strangely drawn to the building, though he had driven by it with no thought at all, dozens of times before. He went in, he saw some of the exhibits of Billy’s life and ministry. He started to watch some of Billy’s sermons on youtube over the next few weeks. Then a conversation with a coworker and an invitation to church from the same coworker. Somewhere in the sequence, he was born again, and an insatiable appetite for the Word of God opened up in his soul.

What a thrill today, to begin the work of spiritual formation in his life, to introduce him to the study of the Bible and the Christian life. And what a deeper thrill to remember that we are a part of a Kingdom that will not, cannot, be defeated. The gates of hell will be shaken and destroyed by the gospels advance. And Christ will be glorified.

Christ indeed will be glorified,
and we who have believed will be glorified with Him.
