Six “Prophecies” That Didn’t Happen

Huh?

This came to me in a ministry newsletter some years ago. It was titled “Six Ideas That Didn’t Come True.” I think it goes back to the year 2000.

  1. “Everything that can be invented has been invented.”  –Charles H. Duell, 1888, DIrector of the U.S. Patent Office
  2. “There is no likelihood man can ever tap the power of the atom.”  –Robert Millikan, 1923, Nobel Prize Winner in Physics
  3. “Heavier than air flying machines are impossible.”  –Lord Kelvin, c. 1885, President of the Royal Society
  4. “Babe Ruth made a big mistake when he gave up pitching.”  –Tris Speaker, 1921, Hall of Fame Baseball player
  5. Sensible and responsible women do not want to vote.”  –Grover Cleveland, 1905 President of the United States
  6. “There is so little interest in cross-cultural church planting across the board, that I’m not even going to deal with it in this book.”  –C. Peter Wagner, author of Church Planting for a Greater Harvest, 1990.

As C. Peter Wagner’s book was being published, I had already moved from California to Illinois to plant a multi-ethnic church planting church in the Chicago suburb of Bolingbrook. Many others did and continue the same work. God is always doing more than men can imagine. ALWAYS.
