A little boy had a part in the school play. It was but one line, “It is I, be not afraid.”
Unfortunately, when it came time for his big moment, the boy burst out to the stage from the side curtain, and said in a tremulous voice:
“It’s me and I’m scared!”
But Jesus has a different message for us.
So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.
This is what we need to teach our souls in the face of fear. We are valuable to God. So valuable that Jesus left heaven to come to earth, pay the penalty for our sin and call us into His kingdom, make us heirs with Him and make us sons and daughters.
Perhaps you have heard the the proverb, “Fear makes cowards of us all.” But people who know the risen Christ know that our God turns lambs into lions, cowards into heroes, and laggards into responsible human beings. Trust Jesus. He never disappoints and rewards the faithful.
