Mary’s Song (Luke 1:46–55)
When we look at a tapestry, we often forget that it began with a single thread. I tell you, there is a tapestry being woven in the pages of Scripture. It began with a single thread, but God, the weaver of the tapestry is skillfully weaving every thread together to complete the tapestry of His redemption.
The first thread was revealed in the selection of Abraham as the one through whom all the nations of the earth would be blessed (Genesis 12:1-3).
Mary quotes two other “threads” in her song. In her magnificent hymn of praise, she quotes Psalm 103:17 in verse 50, and in verse 53, she quotes Psalm 107:9.
“And His mercy is upon generation after generation toward those who fear Him.”
“He has filled the hungry with good things.”
This is what our God does. He lavishes mercy on generation after generation to those who honor Him and He fills the hungry with good things.
As we begin the last 25 days before the celebration of Christmas, remember these things about your God. Remember and delight, like Mary did, in the greatness of God.
