November Prayers (14)
Calling the Heart to Worship
Read Psalm 14 and 104
1 “Bless the LORD, O my soul!
O LORD my God, you are very great!
You are clothed with splendor and majesty,
2 covering yourself with light as with a garment,
stretching out the heavens like a tent.”
These are the verses that greet me this morning
as I open my Bible to guide my steps.
Make me a man who is intoxicated with these truths.
You are great, clothed with splendor, covered in majesty
shining like a noon lit sky.
Nothing competes with You
and Your lovingkindness will follow me
every step of this day.
Read Psalm 104:1-2
Read Psalm 44 and 74
Calling the Heart to Repentance
Lord, we have trusted in so many things more than You.
We trust our education rather than Your wisdom.
We trust our experience rather than You sovereignty.
We trust our power, puny as it is, compared to You.
We trust our personality, even our smile, more than we trust You.
And all of this is false and foolish.
But You are our King.
You are our King and our trust should be in You.
Our dependence should be on You,
not our education, or experience, or power, or personality.
It should be in You.
Forgive me, O God, for acting independent of You.
Make a man who is always consulting You.
Like a small child in a fearful place
who reaches for the hand of his father.
Make me a child who is always reaching for You.
cf. Psalm 44:4-8
Read Psalm 104 and 134
Calling the Heart to Rest (a benediction on the day)
A Song of Ascents.
1 “Behold, bless the Lord, all servants of the Lord,
Who serve by night in the house of the Lord!
2 Lift up your hands to the sanctuary
And bless the Lord.
3 May the Lord bless you from Zion,
He who made heaven and earth.”
be your trust and stay,
and may your heart be at rest
as you lay your body down for your rest.
May this son of ascent
cause your heart to ascend
to Him on died, and rose for you.
cf. Psalm 104:1-2 and 134:1-3 (NASB95)
