The news was reporting on “election anxiety” tonight, the day after the election. I turned and said to my wife, “I don’t think I had a smidge of election anxiety before or after the election, no matter who would win or who did win. If the number zero is “no anxiety” and -5 represented a democratic win and +5 represented a republican win, I don’t think my anxiety would have moved half a point either way no matter who won.” Last night, I just went to bed and slept well not knowing who one.
Why? Because Jesus was, is, and will always be on the throne and I trust Him not ANY political candidate or candidate. Faith in Christ changes everything.
November Prayers (7)
Calling the Heart to Worship
Read Psalm 7, 37
Lord, this morning I take my refuge in You.
I will not fret or worry about evildoers this day.
With every anxious thought I have
I will remind my heart that You are neither surprised
nor powerless.
Instead Lord, I will gather my heart into Your presence,
remember Your faithfulness
and delight myself in You.
Trusting You is a cinch when my delight is in You.
cf. Psalm 37:1; 37:1-6
Read Psalm 7; 67
Calling the Heart to Repentance
3 O Lord my God, if I have done this,
If there is injustice in my hands,
4 If I have rewarded evil to my friend,
Or have plundered him who without cause was my adversary,
5 Let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it;
And let him trample my life down to the ground
And lay my glory in the dust. Selah.
Lord, I am co-opting David’s words.
If I am guilty of ANY fault
in relation to the people who are against me, show me.
I want to be guiltless;
I want to be reconciled;
I want to forgive those who trespass against me
so that the free flow of Your forgiveness
will be unhindered.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
cf. Psalm 7:3-5, 12-13
Read Psalm 67 and 127
Calling the Heart to Rest (a benediction on the day)
Your God is gracious.
And because of Your grace
Praise is due You from the nations of the earth.
And if it is due from the nations,
it is due from me.
So tonight, before I sleep,
I call my heart into Your presence,
that tomorrow, I might be useful to You,
and a blessing to my family
and everyone You bring across my path.
cf. Psalm 67:1, 3-5; and 127:1, 3-5
What to Do with Anxiety?
Give it into the hands of Christ. Trust Him and nothing else.
