Monday Prayers Before an Election

Prayer Shawl

Prayers stimulated by the language of the psalms. These prayers are designed for three “stops” in the day. A morning stop is the “begin the day” stop. The mid-day stop is a call to repentance because the Christian life is a life of repentance. And the evening stop is a benediction on the day. All of them are just a start. Feel free to wrap your own prayers about anything and anyone around them as you have time. My goal is to post each day’s prayers between 11:30 PM and 8 AM of the day for which they are aligned.

November Prayers (4)
Calling the Heart to Worship

Read Psalm 4 and 34

The psalmist invites us to call on the God of our righteousness.
Is this not a delight to our hearts as this day begins?
The God of our righteousness is available to hear our cries!

So let us march into this day knowing that He is with us,
that He hears us,
and that He is ready to fight for us.
Fill your heart with these thoughts.
Meditate on them throughout this day.
As you watch Him do what only He can do.

cf. Psalm 4:1, 4, 8

Read Psalm 64

Calling the Heart to Repentance

Lord, I just read Psalm 64 and I am humbled by the care of Your people.
I read this psalm and think of how stupid I am for not trusting You.
It doesn’t matter how many are against me,
how many sharpen their tongue to speak smack about me,
or how many devise injustice against me.
You are for me as I am for You.
I have nothing to fear when You are fighting the battle.
And yet Lord, too often, I do.

Forgive me, Oh God.
Forgive me, but change me.
Help me to put my trust, all of it, in You.

cf. Psalm 64:1-6

Read Psalm 94; and 124

Calling the Heart to Rest (a benediction on the day)

We belong to the Living One and
Psalm 4:8 says that Yahweh alone makes us dwell in safety.
Therefore, sleep well this night
for He who fashioned the ear, and formed the eye,
and who knows the thoughts of men,
watches over you for your good.

Lay your head down in peace
The Lord of life is with you.

cf. Psalm 4:8, 94:9, 11; 124:1-6
