Three Prayers for Your Sunday

For the remainder of November, I will offer three prayers a day for such a time as this in our culture. I hope they will help all of us process whatever happens in the election on Tuesday. After Tuesday, Jesus will still be King. Jesus will still be sovereign. Jesus will still be trustworthy. Remember that and continue to pray.

November Prayers (3)

Calling the Heart to Worship

Read Psalm 3

There are battles to face today that may take you by surprise,
but Your God will be with you for every second of it.
Last night you slept in peace
because He cared for you through the night.
You woke this morning
because of His care in the night.

So may you walk in confidence
knowing that He who knows you,
He who created time
and everything that exists in it,
who knows every situation you will face today,
will go before you as your protector.
Trust Him.
He delights in being Your Rock.

cf. Psalm 3:1-6

Read Psalm 33 and 63

Calling the Heart to Repentance

Lord, you command us to sing a new song
of praise and thanksgiving to You.
And everyday, I forget the melody before lunch.
My life should be a symphony of praise to You,
but I too often sound like the orchestra’s cacophony in their warm-up instead–
all sound and no music.

Psalm 33:10 says that You bring the counsel of nations to nothing.
Would you bring all of my counsel,
every bit of it that is not consistent with your will, to nothing.
Destroy my plans if they are not in line with Yours,
and make my heart not resent it when You do.

Make my soul thirst for You.
Make my soul satisfied in You.
Make my soul cling to You.
For I confess that I need Your hand
to push my heart toward You.
Teach me to cling to You
for nothing else will satisfy
the thirst of my soul.

cf. Psalm 33:1-3, 10; and 63:1, 5, 8

Read Psalm 93 and 123

Calling the Heart to Rest (a benediction on the day)

The Lord is robed in majesty
The world is established in His strength.
His decrees are trustworthy, always trustworthy.

So lift up your eyes to majestically robed King,
who oozes strength and whose word
is filled with faithfulness.

Remember these truths
and rest peacefully as you wait for His mercy
that will greet you in the morning.

cf. Psalm 93:1-2; and 123:1, 3
