December 4: Liturgies for Life

A Morning Call to Worship

Psalm 34

Bless the LORD at all times, but especially to start the day.
May His praises inhabit your mouth,

And may your boasts of Him be both humble and glad.
May you taste and see that He is good.
And may His goodness remind you throughout the day
that He redeems all who take refuge in Him.

An Afternoon Prayer of Confession

Psalm 64, 94

Sometimes Lord, dullness and lethargy inhabit my heart
like rot on and overripe banana.

I run from Your discipline.
I ignore Your word.
I don’t love what and, more importantly,
who You want me to love.
I forsake Your people and treat my time as my own.
I’m selfish LORD.
Heal me. Change me.
Make me more aware, more immediately, of my sin.
Help me to hate what keeps me from You
and Your people and the neighbors You call me too.
Make me holy.
Help me to confess and live in dependence upon You
every moment of what remains to this day.

An Evening Benediction on the Day

Psalm 4, 124

The Lord was at your side and on your side throughout the day.
His face was toward you today

And as you go to your bed this night, He will watch over you as you sleep.
May you sleep then, in the peace of the safety He supplies.

And may you rise with new praises on your lips
because you know that He is your help.
