December 2: Liturgies for Life

These short liturgies are based on the Psalm sequence that follows the pattern of the psalm that corresponds to the day of the month and every 30th psalm from it 4x. Thus, for the second day of the month, the pattern is Psalm 2, 32, 62, 92 and 122. The content of those Psalms form the “language” of the liturgies. May God bless them and you for His glory and your joy.

A Morning Call to Worship

Psalm 2 and 62

Rise with joy, for the Lord your God laughs at plans raised against Him.
Rise to worship, for the King is on His throne.
Rise to declare His power to your own heart.
Rise and remember your rock and stronghold.
Rise to give reverence to the Lord
and remember that He blesses all who take refuge in Him.

An Afternoon Prayer of Confession

Psalm 32 and 92

Like David, I acknowledge my sin to You.
I am tired of hiding my corruption.
The weight of my sin is to much to bear.
Lord, I need Your power to overcome my apathy
and wastefulness, my lust and my greed,
my lack of compassion and failure to love as I ought.
I haven’t loved my family like I should and I certainly
haven’t loved my enemies as You commanded me.
I know You see to the core of my heart.
Please Lord, instruct me and teach me
the way in which I should walk.
I don’t want to be like a mule with a bit in my mouth
to force me to do what You want.
Give me a heart that willingly obeys with joy.
O God, I need that. I need a willing Spirit.
So here I am Lord. Change me for the glory of Your name.
Amen.

An Evening Benediction on the Day

Psalm 122

Today is drawing to a close, tomorrow will be a new day.
Your word reminds us that each day is a good day
to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
May the needs of our world focus our attention
on the God who can heal it
and the Prince of Peace who can redeem it.
And may we rise in the morning to give praise to His Name.
