Can We Surrender All?

This morning, I had the privilege of starting the day with four other men and one woman of God with a great time of prayer for the nation. We started in Psalm 20 and moved to psalm 50 and at one point, I’m not sure why, the 70’s chorus, “I Surrender All” came into my mind. As a result, one of my prayers included the idea of surrendering all and anything necessary to make revival happen.

Afterward, I began to sing the chorus to myself and a new thought came to my heart. Is it really possible to surrender all? Can we really surrender all? Don’t I need to surrender my will to the Lord everyday and isn’t it always a challenge to do so? Am I lying when I sing the lyrics of this song? Or is this song really song that is aspirational rather than declarative? Is it both?

I’ll let you wrestle with yourself, but here it is from the archive of time and the youtube.com.

Legitimate Question:

  • How appropriate is it for an entire worship song to focus on our activity rather than the worthiness of God?
