Songs in the Night

A few nights ago, I desperately needed sleep and the Spirit of God denied it to me. I guess I didn’t need it as much as I thought. Part of it was I was thinking about the long drive to a conference in Colorado. Part of it was a little tune and the words to go with it, that popped into my head that I couldn’t get out of my head. The trouble was the words were so simple I couldn’t stop thinking of them and then the tune took over and I couldn’t stop “hearing” it as I was supposed to be falling asleep! So finally, in the darkness, I opened up my journal and scribbled down some words that I thought might help me remember the tune. The hope was that NOW, I would finally be able to sleep. It worked.

When I woke up, and saw what I had written, both the tune and the words needed to be reworked. So that’s what I did while sitting in the passenger seat as my bride took over driving duties. Since I am neither a musician nor a vocalist, there is little chance that there is any genius to the composition below. It is highly repetitive, exactly the kind of word structure that I typically HATE. And yet, I still can’t get it out of my head.

Some day, probably at three o’clock in the morning, I will record it so that maybe I can pass it on to some musician who might come up with something better. But, here it is, another offering from “3AM Songs”. Sing your own tune. Pray it from the heart.

All I Have is You

In all the world, all I have is You.
In all the world, all I have is You.
All I have is You
All I have is You.
All I have is You in all the world
In all the world, all I need is You.
In all the world, all I need is You.
All I need is You.
All I need is You.
All I need is You in all the world.
Give me You O Lord, give me You.
Give me You O Lord, give me You.
You are all I need.
You are all I need.
I need no one more than I need You.
I need no one more than I need You.
