Once upon a time, I was going to do this for every year as a summary of the year’s activity.
This evening, I found this in the draft list of unfinished posts. Perhaps it will help some of you
# 1 Piercing an Ear as an Act of Worship
Sometimes 400 people a day were coming to read this post in 2012. I would like to think that it was because of a hunger for greater depth and intimacy with Christ in worship. My suspicion is that many were more interested in the picture and the title than the content. Still, I pray that more will continue to find it and be moved by God’s Spirit to love him more completely.
# 2 Making Disciples with Asparagas
This post was actually written the year before but it had legs and continued to be one of the most read articles on the BLOG. It was really a simple story about an opportunity to give some asparagas to my neighbors. But all of us have similar opportunities or can create these opportunities if we just give it a little bit of thought and pray for boldness to take the first step.
# 3 Family Slogans and Lasting Values
This was one of the tools that we used to raise our three children. One day I shared the idea in a class I was teaching at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School to a group of church planters. Some of them asked for a copy and used it as a model for their families as they developed their own “family slogans.” So I put it up on the blog and it became one of the top posts for 2012.
# 4 The Tidal Wave Coming to the American Church
This post was actually written in August of 2011, but it became a “hit” in 2012. Someone found it and started passing it around I guess. The post deals with the lack of a deep understanding of the gospel and what it will do to the nation unless we change our focus.
# 5 New John Piper Controversey
John Piper was in the news in 2012 because of comments made about the tsunami that struck Indonesia and parts of Thailand on Christmas day of 2011. In this post I analyzed the criticism and defended John against his critics. Judge for yourself.
# 6 Betrayal: Every Leader’s Experience
This was another post, that was actually written the year before (September), but it became the 6th most read article on the blog the following year. It is an encouragement to me that sometimes it takes time for people to find these things. It helps me to not give up on the craft of writing and trying to help the cause of Christ and the Kingdom of God to move forward as best I can.
# 7 Band of Brothers and What it Means to Lead
And finally, this post, which I suspect will show up in other “end of the year” summaries based on my memory of the last decade. Written in December of 2011, every year since this post has found an audience that wants to understand what it means to lead. Very short.
