The Greatest Enemy of Hunger for God

Tuesday is for Thinking

Hunger for God (Piper)

“The greatest enemy of hunger for God is not poison but apple pie.
It is not the banquet of the wicked that dulls our appetite for heaven,
but endless nibbling at the table of the world. It is not the X-rated
video, but the prime-time dribble of triviality we drink in every night.”

—John Piper in, A Hunger for God, p. 14.

Questions:

  • What is the “prime-time dribble of triviality” that is keeping you from reading your Bible?
  • What is it that is the “thing” that you know is a cancer to your walk with God that you need to take a scalpel to and surgically cut from your life?
  • When will you cry out to God for help, and to your brother or sister for accountability for that “thing”?
