Why is the Gospel Ridiculed?

Discussion Points

Short answer: The foundations of the culture are crumbling.

There are a lot of good and legitimate answers to that question but here’s one from one of our best thinkers.

“What I am suggesting is that the Christian message itself will become the object of ridicule. The life of discipleship will be derided precisely because it calls attention to the gospel, to its claims and imperatives. We are entering an age in which the simple confession of faith becomes the dividing line between the reprobate and the elect, the oppressors and the oppressed, the children of darkness and the children of light.”

Donald G. Bloesch, p. 97 in Crumbling Foundations: Death and Rebirth in an Age of Upheaval.

Bloesch wrote these words in 1983. Twenty five years later, they are even more true.

Question:  How does knowing that we have entered such an age effect the living out and the proclamation of the gospel in our day?
