God Hates.

God Hates Sin.

And he has good reason to hate sin.

  1. It breaks his moral law.
  2. It deprives human beings of their full flourishing.
  3. It brings pain and heart-ache to others.
  4. It creates destruction and violence in the world.
  5. It destroys the beauty of his creation.
  6. And the list goes on . . .

God’s hatred of sin is the reason God will judge the earth.

But there is hope. There is hope because of Christ, because of Easter, because of Good Friday, because of Christmas. Time will work backward when Jesus comes to judge the living and the dead. He will complete the process of redeeming the earth that started with the incarnation at Christmas and traveled through the horrors of Good Friday and the glories of Easter. Jesus is alive! He is not in the tomb. He rose.

Just as He said He would.

He will make good on His promise to return just as He made good on His promise to rise from the dead.

Jesus is coming to judge the living and the dead.
We don’t know when.
We do know He will.

Your next breath is less sure than this, “Jesus is coming to judge the living and the dead.”

“I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”
(2 Timothy 4:1-4)

“. . . in season and out of season . . .”

We are living in one of those times. It is “out of season”, i.e., unpopular to believe and teach and preach these things but it is what faithful followers of Christ must do.

With love and patience,
with confidence and humility,
with compassion and tears,

with sacrifice and suffering,

but we must tell the world. There is a holy God that we, human kind have offended, and there is but one escape, Jesus as our rescuer and redeemer. Good Friday is all about His sacrifice for us.

“God demonstrated his love for us, in that while we were yet sinner, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8

Remember this.
Believe this.
Rejoice in this.
Proclaim this.

It is what is expected of those who have picked up their cross to follow Him.

Francis Chan makes a similar point in this short out take from a recent message.
