Monday is for Discussion
We say we are. We say we are a people of the Book but I wonder. I wonder about myself, I wonder the same thing about the congregations of America. I wonder if we know what we are talking about?
If we were truly a people of the Book wouldn’t we be more like Jesus by now?
If we were really people of the Book, wouldn’t we care more for our neighbors than we do?
Wouldn’t we sacrifice more for them and for the advance of the Kingdom of God?
Wouldn’t we risk more for the spread of the fame of our Savior?
Wouldn’t we love one another better, more tangibly, more willingly?
Wouldn’t we be more mezmerized by the wonder of “his love endures forever” (Psalm 136)?
Wouldn’t we care more and sacrifice more for the poor, the marginalized, and the hurting?
Wouldn’t we weep more for the souls of men?
My zeal consumes me,
because people do not keep your law.
Are any of us rightly described as “People of the Book” if this is never our experience?
Just asking, for a friend of course.
